From the perspective of Chinese medicine, COVID-19 belongs in the category of "communicable diseases" caused by coronaviruses. Common treatment methods focus on discharging heat and removing dampness from the body, as well as clearing toxins and phlegm. During the recovery process, the patient should focus on preventing dampness, and nourishing the lungs, stomach and spleen.

三款藥物均為國家《新型冠狀病毒肺炎診療方案》所推薦,是香港註冊的中成藥。

它們分別適用於出現以下不同病徵的人士,但不適用於預防感染新冠病毒,建議服藥前先諮詢中醫師。

「藿香正氣膠囊」針對乏力、頭痛,伴腹脹、噁心嘔吐、腹瀉等胃腸道不適。

「金花清感顆粒」針對乏力、發熱、惡寒輕或不怕冷、咽乾、咽痛、鼻塞流涕、咳嗽、大便正常。

「連花清瘟膠囊」針對乏力、發熱或高熱、惡寒、肌肉酸痛、頭痛、鼻塞流涕、咳嗽、咽乾、咽痛、大便乾結。

These three drugs, recommended in the Mainland's "Diagnosis and Treatment Protocols for Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia", are all registered in the Hong Kong SAR. They are suitable for people with the symptoms listed below. However, they cannot prevent COVID-19 infections. Patients should consult a Chinese medicine doctor before taking any of these drugs.

Huoxiang Zhengqi Pian is for patients suffering from fatigue, headaches, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and other types of gastrointestinal discomfort.

Jinhua Qinggan Keli is for patients with fatigue, a fever, aversion or insensitivity to coldness, a dry or sore throat, nasal congestion, a runny nose and cough, but otherwise normal stool.

Lianhua Qingwen Jiaonang is for patients with fatigue, a normal or high fever, aversion to coldness, muscle aches, headaches, nasal congestion, a runny nose, cough, a dry or sore throat, and dry stool.

The School of Chinese Medicine's Jockey Club "Embrace Health" Chinese Medicine Programme has specially designed a set of gymnastics exercises. Many people have been staying at home during the pandemic, and the lack of physical activity can adversely affect our health and wellbeing.

The Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health has developed a set of exercises for those who work from home to release the tension in the shoulder and waist area. In a series of basic moves, the exercises aim to strengthen muscles, improve arm and leg coordination as well as cardiorespiratory fitness, and enhance joint mobility and flexibility.

Dr Benjamin Koen, Associate Professor of the Department of Music, recommends the Three Breath Meditation, which can be practised every morning and evening. This brief meditation helps us let go of the past and future, and it brings us into the present moment and a state of being.
